A group project to develop an affordable hearing solution for low and middle income countries.
Hearing deficits are prevalent all around the world. In fact, the WHO estimates that 466 million people around the world are afflicted with a hearing disability. Given this incredible statistic, it is truly unfortunate that the average cost of hearing aids is $2,300 according to the White House.
To contribute to the development of affordable hearing technology, the EnginHears have started work on a low cost bone conduction hearing aid development platform, the LOCOBOCO. The target cost of the LOCOBOCO is $30, and is meant to be highly configurable to encourage improvements by others.
Development of the LOCOBOCO is still ongoing. An early revision of the headset is shown below.
